There are some simple tests that anyone can do at home.

Hydrochloric Acid Test (Home Test)
The Hydrochloric Acid Test can identify how well you produce stomach acid (hydrochloric acid). Stomach acid is essential as it provides the first line of defence against infections and also begins protein digestion. It is also vital for the absorption of many minerals such as iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc and copper as well as B vitamins and vitamin C.

Barnes Temperature Test (Home Test)
Your body temperature can be a good guide to how your metabolism is functioning. A low body temperature may indicate less than optimal thyroid function.

Stool Transit Time Test (Home Test)
This test can identify the time food takes from ingestion to excretion. Optimal stool transit time is 12-18 hours.

However there are specific Clinical Tests which may be recommended. These are non-invasive and are only available through qualified practitioners. Test kits can be delivered to your own home with full instructions and are then sent to accredited medical laboratories in the UK. The assistance of your GP may be required for those tests requiring a blood sample. Clinical Tests vary and are charged separately. The results are sent to me for interpretation and analysis and I shall explain the results to you at the next consultation. Laboratory tests are undertaken for the purpose of functional assessments rather than pathological assessments, but in all cases, where indications are relevant a referral back to your primary health care provider will be recommended.

Below is a list and description of some of the 91 tests available:

Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis 2.0 (Clinical Test)
This test is the ‘gold standard’ analysis of digestive function. It will show me how your gastrointestinal tract is working, how well you are digesting and absorbing your food and how well you are using it. It will also show me the ratio of good to bad bacteria, any yeast growth and offers comprehensive risk assessment for colorectal cancer.

Food Allergen Cellular Test (Clinical Test)
Many clients present with adverse reactions to foods. Unlike standard tests this blood test uses many inflammatory markers to assess reactions. It measures 118 foods.

Complete Hormones (Clinical Test)
This test, facilitated by urine collection, will show me how well your hormones are functioning.

Homocysteine (Clinical Test)
Elevated homocysteine in plasma is less than optimal and is an independent risk factor for premature cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis and stroke. Its metabolism is dependent on an adequate supply of certain key nutrients. Testing can ascertain your nutritional status regarding these nutrients.

Comprehensive Adrenal Stress Profile (Clinical Test)
Healthy adrenal glands secrete cortisol and DHEA that allow us to deal with the physical and emotional stresses of life. When stress persists cortisol is produced in abundance, which can affect bones, muscles, cardiovascular function, the immune system, the thyroid gland, sleep, glucose regulation and ageing. Over time cortisol and DHEA secretion can drop below normal levels, leaving you unable to cope with stress and this can affect every system of the body. This saliva test measures your production of cortisol and DHEA and also the antibody Secretory IgA, a crucial marker of the immune system and the first line of defence of the gastrointestinal mucous membrane.

Optimum nutrition here promotes feelings of wellbeing and supports your ability to adapt to the pressures of a modern lifestyle.

Our endocrine system, when operating in perfect health, ensures we enjoy optimal energy levels, a healthy and regulated blood sugar balance, emotional and psychological wellbeing, a state of optimal gastrointestinal health and tolerance to a wide range of foods and different food groups. This can be a difficult area to manage alone, without adequate guidance.

Toxic Element Clearance Profile (Clinical Test)
Your liver was designed to detoxify the many substances produced as a result of human metabolism. It was not designed to detoxify the many environmental chemicals that your body is exposed to. These place an increased burden on the liver and include personal care products, cleaning products, amalgam fillings, pesticides, fertilizers, electromagnetism and sources of pollution. Specific enzymes facilitate the clearance of these compounds. Nutritional factors, including proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals, influence the efficiency of this clearance.

As a nutritional therapist trained in physiology, disordered physiology, biochemistry and clinical practice I can provide personalised recommendations that will optimise liver function and support your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
